Google recently has been facing a headache. By introducing their new AI summary at the top, they’ve made a better product. But isn’t this killing their ad model?
After all, if you don’t need to look below the fold, then how can you show ads?
It turns out the same issue was faced in 1998 when Google first existed. Yahoo would show less relevent pages first due to it’s poor ranking algorithm, and hence you would need to click more links and get more ads. Google fixed this with a better algorithm.
You can see Google still won.
Do not be afraid of doing things in a better way cause someone will do it. It just might not be you.
Google could always inject an ad into the AI summary at some point.
Don’t make your own product worse for the sake of trying to hangon. Eventually someone will make what you’re hiding from the world and you’ll die.
